I definitely need to look back on the ballroom dancing. I have a lot to catch up on! I loved your verdict on rock climbing. "I was so looking forward to it, but when it got to it, it was the same old thing and I wasn't any good anyway." Ha! Have you tried it again since?
So sorry to hear about Chris Haywood... I first met him when at primary school I was lucky enough to attend the 'Sport for All' training sessions held at Tonbridge School. I used to do Gymnastics in the morning and Athletics in the afternoon (which is where I met Chris.) I think he went to Sussex Road School which is the same school where the Athletics coach, Mr Hamlin, taught. (Did anyone ever do the 'King of the Hill' race up to Bidborough Ridge? Mr Hamlin used to organise that and I remember Steve Ovett presenting the prizes in the year that I had a go at it.)
I think Chris did the 'unheard of' 4 (or was it 5) A' Levels.
Deepest condolences to his family.
Seb, I am enjoying reading your diary entries. They bring back so many memories. Do pass on my regards to Ethan and to Helga.
Lucky you being so close to the Royal Albert Hall and having the Proms concerts only a cycle ride away. And who knows, maybe in another 40 years your son will take his own children to the Proms?
There seems to be something of a renewed interest in the music of Louise Farrenc. I was lucky enough to hear several of her chamber pieces performed live during the Skipton Music Women Composers Season, 2022. There's some wonderful music in her output, far too little known.
Hi Seb - thoroughly enjoying your Pepys-esque time machine and the memories it has stirred. Thanks for being such a faithful chronicler. I can only assume the moral dilemma you’re facing is whether to repost something you wrote that isn’t so complimentary. If it’s about me, go for it. I’m well aware that 17 year old me could - on occasion - be a bit of a tosser (to use some era-appropriate vernacular). Keep up the good work :-)
