Hello

“Erudite and youthful… like a more self-aware and highbrow Adrian Mole” says one reader. I’ll take that.

Thanks for reading! This is my 1984 diary which I am publishing week by week 40 years on. I’m still in two minds about putting it online. Why would anyone do that?!

I don’t know why you’re here reading this. Maybe you know me. Did I really give you a link to read this? Eek. Maybe you’re reminiscing about the 80s yourself, or a ‘youngster’ curious about them. People tell me they’re back in fashion. I can’t see why they would be. But I wasn’t really big on 80s culture; my diary is more ballroom than disco, more Beethoven than Bowie. Maybe reading someone else’s diary makes you think back in your own life. Maybe you’re looking for laughs. There might be a couple. Do let me know in the comments if you find any!

Anyhow, whatever reason you ended up here, thank you. Welcome to what was my world and… hope you enjoy!

I’m posting mostly unedited except for a bit of tidying some spelling and minor improvements, and adding some links, media and comments from 2024. Feel free to add your comments and memories.

Please subscribe to keep up with the ‘story’ (‘will his dreams come true’ etc) and get my weekly post into your inbox in manageable chunks! You can subscribe for free or choose to contribute as a paid subscriber, which is always really appreciated.
